The three had been taken captive, but soon began to be recognized in Babylon for their great talent and abilities. Then one day the King of Babylon, Nebuchadnezzar, decided that he wanted people to pay more attention to him by worshiping him and even bow down daily before him. So he took his image, which he created to be larger than real life, and attached music to it! People then were required at the moment they heard the music to bow down to the idol.
Of course, you probably know the story and how these three young people, Shadrach, Meshack, and Abednego refused to bow.
Their determination to stand strong was incredible.
Here’s what they said,
“King Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to defend ourselves before you in this matter. If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to deliver us from it, and he will deliver us from Your Majesty’s hand. But even if he does not, we want you to know, Your Majesty, that we will not serve your gods or worship the image of gold you have set up..”
We all face the pressure to compromise our standards, and it would be much easier to just give in and follow the crowd, and because these three young men decided to stand strong, an entire nation was affected for God. Perhaps God would use you to do the same!
