Very simply, it is the presence of God. The children of Israel depended on Moses to bring them into the presence of God, but when Moses was on the mountain for 40 days, when the people felt lost and they began looking for a substitute experience. Why? Because they were not experiencing the presence of God!
That does not mean you always have to be in church to experience the presence of God. In fact, the Bible says in Matthew 28:20,
“Surely, I am with you always.”
Wherever we go, we can be in the presence of God. As Christians, we must take Jesus everywhere we go, but, unfortunately, many allow themselves to be intimidated by unbelievers. We act as if we would be offending people when we talk about Jesus; we think our friends will think we are “too weird.” How can it be “too weird” for us to want to save our friends from hell?
For those you and I associate with, the only gospel they may ever see is through our lives. So, what is your life saying to them? Do others notice that you’re different?
